Paid Family Medical Leave

In 2019, in collaboration with our members and other organizations, we persuaded the administration and individual legislators to preserve the private market. This was accomplished by including an opt-out provision in the Connecticut Paid Family Medical Leave (PFML) law, which allows the insurance industry to participate by including a private option.

The Connecticut Paid Family Medical Leave Insurance Authority (the Authority) began meeting at the end of 2019. We have been working with the Authority, the Connecticut Department of Labor, the Connecticut Department of Insurance (CTDOI) and the Office of the Governor to ensure that input from the insurance industry is considered by the Authority as its work progresses.

The IAC’s PFML Working Group (i) developed a timeline for implementing the newly enacted PFML law, (ii) recommended changes to the law, and (iii) recommended changes to the soon-to-be-written regulations governing the program.
